Britain's Beauty Industry Contributes £28.3 Billion to the UK Economy

Britain's beauty industry continues to prove its strength, contributing £28.3 billion to the UK economy, according to the latest Value of Beauty report published by the British Beauty Council in partnership with Oxford Economics. The findings reinforce the industry's position as one of the UK's most valuable economic sectors, supporting almost 595,000 jobs and generating £8.8 billion in tax revenue.

Despite a challenging economic climate, rising operating costs and changing consumer spending habits, the beauty sector has continued to demonstrate resilience. Demand across skincare, fragrance, cosmetics, haircare and professional beauty remains strong, while businesses continue to invest in innovation, product development and retail expansion.

Innovation remains at the heart of the industry

Consumer expectations continue to shape the future of beauty. Demand for premium products, science-backed formulations, K-Beauty, inclusive beauty and wellness-focused brands is driving retailers and distributors to expand their product offerings.

At the same time, experiential retail and omnichannel shopping continue to transform the way consumers discover and purchase beauty products, creating new opportunities for brands that can offer innovation and differentiation.

The UK continues to attract international beauty brands

The report also highlights the UK's importance as a global beauty market. With £4.2 billion in beauty and personal care exports, Britain remains an attractive destination for international brands looking to establish themselves within Europe while serving a sophisticated and trend-conscious consumer base.

For manufacturers, distributors and retailers, the UK's mature beauty ecosystem continues to offer significant commercial opportunities, supported by strong consumer demand and an established retail network.

A positive outlook for the years ahead

Looking ahead, Oxford Economics forecasts further growth for the sector, with the UK's beauty industry expected to contribute £29.4 billion to GDP in 2026, support more than 609,000 jobs, and generate £9.4 billion in tax revenue. The outlook reflects continued confidence in the industry's long-term growth and its ability to adapt to changing market conditions.

Connecting brands with the buyers driving the market

As the UK beauty market continues to grow, building the right commercial partnerships has never been more important. Retailers and distributors are actively looking for innovative products and emerging brands, making face-to-face business meetings a key driver of growth.

This demand is reflected at Tones of Beauty, the UK's only dedicated B2B beauty trade exhibition, where beauty brands from around the world connect with more than 7,000 buyers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and industry professionals from the UK and across Europe.

The exhibition's Hosted Buyer Programme gives exhibitors direct access to senior buying professionals from leading retailers and distributors, including Boots, Superdrug, TJX Europe, Amazon, Harrods, John Lewis, Debenhams, The Fragrance Shop, Next, Sally Europe and Sainsbury's, helping brands build valuable relationships with the businesses shaping the future of beauty retail.

Exhibitors can further enhance their visibility through dedicated feature areas including the UK's Largest Fragrance Showcase, The K-Beauty Showcase, Textures of Hair, and the UK Discovery Hub, each designed to help buyers discover new products, trends and brands across the beauty industry.

Recognised as an award-winning exhibition, Tones of Beauty provides a platform where international brands can launch new products, strengthen distribution networks and connect with the decision makers driving one of the world's most influential beauty markets.
